)Insider Gaming has learned that over the past several months, Cloud Imperium Games, the developers behind Star Citizen has lost several ‘integral staff’ responsible for server meshing.
Roger Godfrey, the Lead Producer of Core Tech (Server Meshing) publicly left the company in December 2024, but since then, the department has seen other key figures leave, Insider Gaming has learned.
Ivan C (Producer) and Jordan Wood (Network Programmer) are two names who were mentioned and are said to have been “integral” to server meshing with staff saying that their departure is a “huge loss” to Cloud Imperium Games.
While it’s unclear on why all three left CIG in a relatively short period of time, it’s understood that internal tensions surrounding Turbulent and CIG’s takeover in late-2023 is one major cause.
According to those familiar with the situation, the takeover resulted in staff from Turbulent wanting more lucrative roles within Cloud Imperium Games. It eventually saw some staff, described as unqualified for the roles “failing upwards” and taking over key positions which has become hugely unpopular interally.
Cloud Imperium’s losses mean that the only two producers that worked on Server Meshing have now left the company.

Die internen Spannungen nach der Turbulent-Übernahme scheinen größere Auswirkungen zu haben, als viele gedacht haben. Hoffen wir, dass sie das Team wieder stabilisieren können.Insider Gaming has learned that over the past several months, Cloud Imperium Games, the developers behind Star Citizen has lost several ‘integral staff’ responsible for server meshing.

On 21 January 2026, CIG was targeted by a systematic and sophisticated attack, resulting in unauthorised access to some backup systems, including limited access to users’ personal data. CIG acted quickly to contain the activity and block further access to this data and CIG systems, and we have refreshed security settings to ensure that there is no threat to our games or our users.
While CIG is still monitoring the situation, we do not consider that the incident poses a risk to the safety of our users. The data impacted relates only to basic account details (i.e. metadata, contact details, username, date of birth, and name). No financial or payment information was stored in the affected systems and was not accessible. No passwords were impacted, and the access was read-only. No data-injection or modification occurred.
We are closely monitoring the situation and our systems to ensure that no further incidents occur. We are also taking steps to assess and detect whether any data that was accessed is released publicly. At this stage, there are no indications of any such activity.
We are sharing this update in the interests of transparency. However, we do not anticipate that this incident will have any impact on our users.

“We’re gonna get Squadron out first… the plan is for the end of this year but there’s a certain thing in the industry that we, like everyone else, we have to pay attention to, so I can’t 100% guarantee it,” Roberts says, hinting at Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, releasing in November.
