jeuxvideo.com > Even though we're here to talk about Speedball2, we can bear in mind Kylotonn lastly got the attention with Bet on Soldier. What is the link between BOS and Speedball2?
Yann Tambellini: Speedball2 is an opportunity that comes thanks to Frogster Interactive which is our German publisher on BOS. When they bought the Speedball2 license, they immediately made connection between BOS characters with their enlarged armors and Speedball players, with the brutality of this sport. They asked us to try and make a design, to see what we could bring to the game.
jeuxvideo.com > To make the things more precise, what stage is the development now?
Yann Tambellini: We already have a playable code as you could see today. This stage represents 25% of the work. We're a little farer, (30
because many other things are begun. They are not finished so we do not show them. The big task we are focusing on is the online part. It is clear for us that online games shall run perfectly. We cannot imagine Speedball2 lagging during a match. It is the minimum guarantee for such a title which is sport, arcade and action oriented. Other important point: we're working on the AI, which will lead part of the 18 players on the arena.
jeuxvideo.com > What is the ideal figure of people connected playing Speedball2?
Yann Tambellini: We work a lot on the 1 versus 1. We tried the 2v2 and it works as well. Problems begin when playing a 3v3: players play in an adversary way rather than for ball possession and progression. As it is a sport in which blows and injuries are allowed, we quickly get to melees which broken the rythm of the game. So far, for instance, we are certain it would be possible to make 2v2 games, but for the 3v3 we'll see.
jeuxvideo.com > So we can say the AI contributes to game fluidity?
Yann Tambellini: Absolutely.
jeuxvideo.com > Do you know the first Speedball2?
Yann Tambellini: Yes. My first machine was a CPC. Then I had an Amiga and for all those who possessed this machine, it was impossible to leave Speedball2 aside. But half of people from our studio had already played the former version, and when we told us they'd work on Speedball2, they got very enthusiastic.
